Ebook About
The world’s most ruthlessly efficient assassin, Jason Bourne, is facing the one force he can’t defeat—his own past—in the latest thrilling entry in Robert Ludlum’s New York Times bestselling series. Three years ago, Jason Bourne embarked on a mission in Estonia with his partner and lover, a fiery Treadstone agent code-named Nova. Their job was to rescue a Russian double agent who’d been smuggled out of St. Petersburg in the midst of an FSB manhunt. They failed. The Russian died at the hands of a shadowy assassin known only by the nickname Lennon. Now everything has changed for Bourne. Nova is gone, killed in a mass shooting in Las Vegas. Bourne is a lone operative, working in the shadows for Treadstone, when he’s called in for a new mission in London—to prevent another assassination masterminded by Lennon. But nothing about this mission is what it seems. As Bourne engages in a cat-and-mouse game with Lennon across the British countryside, he discovers that everything he thought he knew about the past was a lie. And with the body count rising, he comes to an inevitable conclusion: Some secrets should stay buried.

Book Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Treachery Review :

Once again, Putnam's newly rebooted Ludlum books are the highlights of the years reading for me. Brian Freeman's characterization of Bourne is totally spot-on. He has essentially lifted Ludlum's original character from "The Bourne Identity" and transplanted him into the 2020s. This version of Bourne feels more like a real person than the Matt Damon killing machine, though Freeman's Bourne is also supremely lethal when necessary, quickly and efficiently dispatching hordes of enemy agents and assassins with ease, often with his bare hands. Freeman also weaves Ludlum trademarks into his prose, such italicized sentences and a flair for the melodramatic, without going overboard the way Ludlum tended to do. Although Freeman's books lack the intense, hardcore action and tactical accuracy of Joshua Hood's Treadstone books, he is a masterful plotter, and this book, like the first one, is loaded with Ludlum-esque conspiracies and genuinely shocking twists and turns that even the most seasoned thriller reader will not see coming. Unraveling the layers of intrigue and Bourne's relationships with the supporting characters, including a truly excellent antagonist, are what will keep you turning the pagers. Highly recommended.
Perhaps I expected too much. This Jason Bourne installment just seemed a little flat, worn out, forced. I've enjoyed many Brian Freeman thrillers before, but this storyline lacked the suspense, character development, and the story depth of other Jason Bourne franchise efforts. Many story elements seemed repetitive of previous Brian Freeman novels and themes, which was distracting. Possibly, that's why it seemed that Jason Bourne, or Cain appeared to play a supporting role to the other characters.Although well written, relatively brief, and filled with lots of action, the plotline tried to do too much with too many characters to remain believable. The surprising twists seemed forced and contrived at time a perhaps overly formulaic in structure.I needed more true Bourne in the story, rather than a half-hearted doppelganger imitation. I might try another installment, but I have reservations about continuing the series. One bright spot was Audible's narration service that added extra oomph to the characters.Every author has an occasional slump, so perhaps that's what happened here. I hope so.
